Policies

Building policies

  • Children 12 and younger must have adult (18 years or older) supervision at all times
  • No full court basketball games allowed
  • No organized groups/teams or practices allowed in the basketball gym
  • All community center visitors must purchase daily admission; this includes supervising adults in the waterparks, playground, and basketball gym
  • Meetings in common areas are only allowed if organized by the community center
  • You must have a room reservation scheduled if you plan on opening presents, having cake/cupcakes, balloons, and/or decorations
  • No parties or outside food are allowed in the common lounge areas or the cafe; you must rent a room
  • Overnight personal storage in the building is not allowed
  • Wristbands are needed for:
    • Fitness center
    • Basketball courts
    • Walking track
    • Indoor playground
    • Waterpark
  • Wristbands can be purchased at the lower level service desk
  • The community center reserves the right to deny admission to anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance
  • The City of Shoreview, and its employees, are not responsible for items lost, stolen, left on site, or left in a vehicle

Code of Conduct

The purpose of the code of conduct is to ensure that there will be a safe and healthy environment for all members and guests of the Shoreview Community Center. 

  1. All members must check in at the service desk to obtain a wristband. All guests must purchase a wristband at the service desk. The wristband must be worn while using the facility. Wristbands are non-transferable, non-refundable and must be used on the day of purchase.
  2. Unacceptable behavior (such as swearing, rough housing, profanity) that is determined by the Manager on Duty will result in a verbal warning. Fighting and/or bullying is not tolerated. Any harassment, including sexual harassment, and verbal slurs involving race, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation will not be tolerated. When a staff members ask you to sop any behavior and you ignore their request, you will be asked to leave the facility. If the behavior continues, a suspension or trespass may be issued and there may be possible police involvement. 
  3. Disrespect for the building, property, staff, other guests/participants or equipment is prohibited. Consequences may include: reimbursing the cost of the damage, suspension, trespass or police involvement. 
  4. All children under the age of 12 years must be supervised by an individual 16 years or older at all times.
  5. You must be 14 years of age or older to use the fitness center and the walking/running track.
  6. You must be 10 years of age or younger to use the Tropical Adventure Indoor Playground.
  7. Food, drink and glass are not allowed in the pool area, the gym, the track, the fitness center or the playground. Plastic water bottles are permissible in these areas. 
  8. Restaurant/catered meals and cake/cupcakes are not allowed without a room reservation.
  9. The possession of weapons of any kind, alcohol, or illegal drugs will not be tolerated. If you are found to be in possession of any of these products, you will be asked to leave the facility and there may be possible police involvement. 
  10. Loitering, where it is determined by management to be in conflict with the enjoyment of the facility by other patrons, is prohibited.
  11. Unsupervised youth are to stay on the lower level of the community center. 

Consequences

Repeated violation of the above guidelines, or lack of compliance with any staff request, will result in the sheriff’s office being contacted. Every situation and action that violates these rules will be reviewed by Shoreview Parks & Recreation staff and the consequence will be specific to the offense. Any individual receiving a suspension or trespass shall forfeit any membership fees, program fees or daily pass fees that they paid prior to the violation.

Indoor playground

  • For ages 1 - 10 years old
  • Unsupervised area
  • All guests must wear socks in the area
  • Everyone must wear wristbands in the area
  • No running or rough play
  • No food in the area

General waterpark

  • Children six and younger must be under direct supervision of a swimming adult within arm’s reach at all times
  • Lifejackets:
    • U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets and Speedo life jackets may be worn
    • Free life jackets are available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis
    • Adults need to be swimming within arm’s reach of the child wearing the life jacket in the pool
    • If there is no adult in the water the child can wear the life jacket in the zero depth area only
  • All swimmers must take a shower before entering the pool
  • No guest with or suspected of having a communicable disease which can be transmitted through the pool, can use the pool
  • Guests with open or infectious sores are not allowed in the pool
    • Young children and infants must wear disposable or reusable swim diapers. Swim diapers are available at the service desk
  • Diving is not allowed in the pool
  • Proper swim wear is required; clean clothes may be worn over swimsuits
  • Spitting or spouting water from the mouth and blowing the nose in the pool is prohibited
  • No running or rough play in the pool or locker rooms
  • Glass objects are not allowed in the pool area
  • Certified lifeguards are on duty
    • Guests must follow all lifeguard instructions
  • Groups visiting the waterpark will be posted at the service desk
  • Staff are here to ensure your safety and enjoyment
    • Anyone acting in an unsafe or inappropriate manner will be asked to leave
  • Staff reserve the right to change the pool rules as needed

Tropics waterpark

Users must follow the general pool policies as well.  

Tropics toddler area

  • Go feet first either lying on your back or sitting
  • No climbing up the boat slide or around it

Water walk

  • Two guests at a time across water walk
  • After falling off, exit the area immediately
  • When crossing, always continue forward and do not stop or move backwards
  • No running across
  • Adults may help children

Sea creatures

  • No standing, jumping, or diving off the sea creatures
  • Slide off feet first, sitting or lying on your back
  • No rough playing or tipping of sea creatures
  • Do not swim underneath the sea creatures

Volleyball and basketball nets

  • No hanging on or swinging the volleyball net
  • No hanging on the rim or slam dunks on the basketball hoop

Water slide

  • Users need to be at least 44 inches tall to ride the water slide
  • One user at a time
  • Users are not allowed to ride down with kids on their lap or catch them at the bottom of the slide
  • Life jackets cannot be worn down the slide
  • Glasses cannot be worn down the slide
  • No stopping, standing, kneeling or going down head first
  • At the end, immediately move to the steps
  • Flashing lights and loud music may cause epileptic seizures. Ride at your own risk

Bamboo Bay waterpark

Users must follow the general pool policies as well. 

Slides

  • Go feet first either lying on your back or sitting
  • No climbing up the slides or around them
  • Red slide
    • No height requirement 
    • One user at a time
    • Users are not allowed to ride down with kids on their lap
    • Glasses cannot be worn down the slide
    • No stopping, standing, or kneeling
    • At the end, exit immediately

Fitness center

You need a wristband on in the fitness center

Age requirements:

  • Must be at least 14 years old

Clothing and personal belongings:

  • Wear workout pants or shorts
  • Wear a shirt or tank top
  • Wear closed-toe shoes
  • No blue jeans or pants with rivets
  • No open-toe shoes
  • Personal belongings are not allowed on the floor (bags, clothing, etc.)
  • Use designated lockers or cubicles
  • Free lockers are available across from the service desk
  • Tobacco, food, glass bottles, and cans are not allowed in the fitness center

Weights:

  • Do not drop or throw weights
  • Re-rack weights and return all other accessories to their proper locations
  • Allow others to use weights or equipment in between your sets
  • Do not remove weights and equipment from the fitness center

Machines:

  • Wipe down after use
  • 30-minute time limit on cardio equipment during busy times or if members are waiting

Personal training:

  • Sessions must be conducted by Shoreview fitness staff
  • Third party personal training is not allowed.
  • Available for purchase at our parks and recreation desk upstairs or by calling 651-490-4768

Unauthorized use of cameras or videos (including cell phones) is prohibited in the community center

Fitness classes and studios

Age requirements:

  • Must be at least 14 years old

Group X card

  • Must have a Group X card to take classes or purchase a daily fitness drop in pass for $13, $12 Shoreview resident

Classes:

  • You do not need to be a member to take classes
  • Community center members receive a discount on classes, some exclusions apply
  • Silver Sneakers, Silver&Fit, and Renew Active: One Pass members receive a discount on classes, some exclusions apply

SeniorFIT classes:

  • Not included with a Silver Sneakers, Silver&Fit, or Renew Active: One Pass membership and will have a fee
  • Free to anyone with an annual senior membership

Refunds are issued for medical reasons only

  • Fitness studios:
    • Only used for fitness classes or other community center classes
    • Do not wear black sole or open-toe shoes
    • No gum, food, or beverages (except water), is allowed in the studios
    • Place all equipment in its correct spot at the end of the class

Lockers and locker room

  • The City of Shoreview is not responsible for items that are lost, stolen, or left in lockers or the community center
  • Please keep all items locked in the lockers
  • Please refrain from using cell phones in the locker room area
  • Do not leave items overnight in the lockers
    • Items left in the lockers overnight will be removed
  • Towels are not provided and should be brought from home 
  • Small valuable lockers are available for free by the lower level service desk

Whirlpool

  • Users must be at least 18 years of age
  • Elderly guests and guests suffering from heart disease, diabetes or high or low blood pressure should not use the whirlpool
  • Pregnant women should consult their physician about using a whirlpool
  • Lengthy exposure may be hazardous to your health and result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting

Kids Care

  • Ages 6 months to 12 years old
  • First come, first served
  • Max 2 hour stay (must stay in building)
  • To use Kids Care you must purchase a punch card or pay a $3 drop-in fee at the service desk
  • If there are no kids in the room 30 minutes prior to close, Kids Care will close early

Punch card

  • $2 per hour rate for punch cards
  • Punch cards are non-refundable
    • 10 hours: $20 
    • 25 hours: $50
    • 50 hours: $100
