Lifeguards are our front line with making sure guests have an enjoyable and safe time during their visit. Our lifeguards receive their certifications through Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program free of charge. Ellis & Associates has established the standard of care in the aquatics industry, giving our staff the skills to ensure our guests' safety by teaching preventive lifeguarding. Our lifeguard team has won the Silver International Aquatic Safety Award from Ellis & Associates in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, and the Gold International Aquatic Safety Award in 2016. Lifeguards also have the opportunity to guard special events that we host at the Shoreview Community Center like our Dive-In Movie series over the winter months or after-hours pool parties.
Being in the land of 10,000 lakes, learning to swim is an important life skill that all Minnesotans should have. Here our swim instructors teach infants to adults the skills needed to be safe in the water in a fun & safe environment. We have created our own swim lesson program that follows an easy progression of skills to allow students to build a foundation for swimming and parents love it. All staff are trained in the Shoreview Park & Recreation Swim Instructor Program. Once hired, staff continuously receive training throughout the year to develop new games, songs, and ways to teach skills; also how to work with individuals with special needs. Lessons are offered 7 days a week from 8 a.m.-noon and 4:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Class sizes range from 4-6 students.
